I liked this book - not quite as much as the others, but it was a good read nonetheless

I would agree with another reviewer who said they didn't recognize these characters from the previous books. Both Prudence and Alex seemed like totally different people from the Alex and Prue that I meet in the other books and in all honesty - I liked them better before I read this book

Prudence bordered on being a total shrew in this book. She came across as petty, selfish and a bit spiteful - I didn't hate her, but it was a close thing. I understood her life was hard and I even understood her jealousy/bitterness over her friends happiness. But I didn't like her reasoning for her choices and her deceptions.

Alex was also a bit of a disappointment - he defeatist attitude and his negativity got old real fast.

I know it sounds like I didn't like the book - but I really did. I just didn't love it.

As always, the story was fresh and the writing was great. I loved seeing the other muses and their spouses. Ferguson is and will always be my favorite!

I will definitely be reading the Duke of Thorns - I hope his heroine brings him down a peg or five!

I almost tossed this book after the first quarter of it....It was boring and had a confusing plot. It finally got a little interesting and then actually was good by the halfway point. But this book probably could use editting before being published. The plot was,decent but it took a long time to get to the point.
A good story and a good price for the hours of entertainment as I am able to listen while I work, so it's a win - win for me!
Agreeing w/another reviewer, the first 1/2 of this book frustrated me... all the talk of the "curse" took away from the true story. However, the problem was resolved @ at about the 1/2 mark, the H finally told the h about the curse, even though she didn't initially believe him, so now that it was out in the open.... their love could bloom.

I liked the first two books in the series better but this certainly had a different flavor. I like regency stories & the heat dispersed through this story, though not alot, made all the difference. If you enjoy regency stories & are tired of the "same old / same old" give Ramsey's Muses of Mayfair a chance.... you won't be disappointed.
I read the first of the Muses of Mayfair books and enjoyed it so much I ordered the other three. I have enjoyed all of them and will definitely be reading them again. I find they are well written stories that move at a reasonable pace. There is some sexual content but I don't feel it is overdone. All romance novels have a conflict of some sort in them and these are no exception, however I did not feel disturbed by them and I am pretty sensitive to violence to the point that I will stop reading a book if there is too much or too graphic violence. I also enjoyed the characters. All of the heroes and heroines are fairly intelligent and mature. The only one I have found to be a little underdeveloped is Alex in book 4, The Earl Who Played With Fire, I'm reading that one now.
I loved this book! This was my favorite of the Muses of Mayfair series. I listened to the audiobook and I'm so glad I did it rather than read it. The narrator's acting, voices, and feeling lent so much to the story. I cried with the amount of heartache the characters faced because they were tormented by a love they felt they couldn't actualize. I usually don't love love stories with a supernatural bent but I loved it here. This book kept me awake a few nights with the amount of love/torment/heartache the characters went through. So powerful!
This is Prudence's story. In previous books it was hinted at who Prue loved but this book tells how long she waited for him. It's a hard tale to read as the outcome isn't what it seems like as you're reading . Prudence turns out to be quite enterprising, she is good at making fake antiquities to survive. Alex is quite frustrating as he doesn't seem to be able to make up his mind. He acts like he cares and then like he doesn't, poor Prue despairs of ever hearing that he loves her. But the author does a good job of keeping you guessing if they will ever get together
The last of the Muses, Prudence, an Antiguties expert, good enough to forge, if push comes to shove; and shove she did! Alex, the boring Earl , finally comes to life. The threat of losing Prudence forever, to his nemesis Thorckington, the Duke of, he decides he needs to find a way to keep her. I have to say, all through this book, I fell in love with "the bad guy". I found Thorckington to be most interesting! I was thrilled at the end of the book, to see where Sara Ramsey has a story for him! Will be reading it next! I highly recommend! Thanks! Enjoy! carolintallahassee
