As I commented on Cutters Vs. Jocks, A Prequel Novella to Binding Arbitration, the cover does not adequately portray the angst that is contained in these stories. Where Cutters Vs Jocks is about fear, love and mistakes of the young, proud and selfish; Binding Arbitration is about forgiving, loving and overcoming fear. Both are about love, pain and loss but on a much different level.

In Cutters, Libby has kept Aiden out of her life after becoming pregnant and Aiden lets her go, but in Binding Arbitration, Libby needs Aiden's DNA to save their son's diseased life. Aiden has never been able to forget Libby, but is still mad at her for disappearing on him and never revealing that she kept their baby. Now that she is back in his life, he realizes there has never been anyone else for him but her, but convincing her of that seems impossible.

There is so much to this story: the profound quotes at the beginning of each chapter, the cycle of fathers abandoning their children, forgiveness and blame, the disease of leukemia, family expectations, death and anger, angels and God, all coming together to define LOVE. It speaks to the reader on so many different levels and shouts at you to re-evaluate your own life and relationships.

I must confess, though, that as a mother of a six year old myself, I could not bring myself to do more than skim many of the chapters in the end. As I have said before, I read to experience other's happiness and adventure and avoid stories that make me cry, and this story was a little too close to my own life for comfort. The product description does advise that Libby's son has leukemia and the disease is dealt with in a knowledgeable and sensitive way, but it is still a disease that ravages a (small) person's body and I guess I didn't think it was going to be a central theme of the story like it was. So, what I am saying is "This story will make you cry!"

Elizabeth Marx's gritty writing was a pleasant surprise to me in Cutter's Vs Jocks and a powerful depiction of love and forgiveness in Binding Arbitration. I would love to read Olivia and Avery's story or what happened with Tony and Evita(cough Mrs. Marx, cough).

Marx's works include profanity and sex and there are some editing problems such as missing words, misspelled words and incorrect words such as "it" for "is". I do not take off stars for bad editing, just warning those who are OCD about this.

I read so much, there are a great many books I may miss and this was one.
This was also my first Elizabeth Marx book, but definitely not my last.

The best thing about a good book, a great book is it can play out as a movie in your head. If well written, the characters are as vivid as any you would see on a 90 x 30 movie screen. You hear the voices, you feel the emotions…you become one with the cast. Just as in a movie you don’t want to leave the theatre for a bathroom break or to get more popcorn for fear you may miss something…a phenomenal book can leave you the same way. You take your e-reader, your hard copy, your phone app with you wherever you move to, for even though the pages will not move forward without you, the feeling of missing something is still there. Elizabeth Marx’s Binding Arbitration is that book for me.

I have read thousands of books in my life, but there is NOT one that has sent me on an emotional voyage as intensely as Binding Arbitration. It is so well written, so fervidly told it floored me. Elizabeth penned it with sincere thought, profound passion and a tender heart. Yet, she told it honestly, fearlessly and was not afraid to take us places we did not want to go. Binding Arbitration was the book that broke me down, put me back together, broke me down again and kept me on a seesaw of sentimental anguish.

I have never experienced the heart palpitations, the anger, the love, the emptiness, the fear from any book as ardently as I did with Binding Arbitrations. There are so many aspects to this story that a multiplicity of feelings is imminent. She weaved so many tales of life into 470 pages; so much joy, so much laughter, so much pain, so much healing. This story teaches, it touches and fulfills.

Elizabeth stunned me with her character development. She made me feel as though I knew each of them on a personable level. They were my friends, my enemies, my children. Elizabeth took her time, she did not rush, she did not pretty up…she kept them realistic and there was no sugarcoating.

She made me feel, she made me love, she made me break. She made me evaluate, she made me think, and she made me cry…no actually she made me sob. She left me speechless at times, raw at others and so, so angry occasionally. She gave me all I could ever want in a story, a movie…a life. She gave me life within the confines of a book binding. She gave me realism with 26 letters and some punctuation. She gave me inspiration.

If you have never read this book, I would strongly advise you to do so and if you have I would suggest a revisit…because somethings, some stories, some movies never get old.
